Jason R. Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I know some of yall run jets. I just got a 40/30 Suzuki and I was just checking out the impeller and fiddling with it. It seems like the impeller has a bit of play when it spins- like if i manually spin the impeller it has some play before the shaft catches. Is that just a worn out tee key? Also, should I really crank down on that shaft nut or give it a little slack? Thanks. http://flyinthesouth.com/
fishinwrench Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 There shouldn't be any slop in the impeller/shaft connection. I'd inspect the key for sure. Don't tighten it down crazy but yeah it needs to be good and snug and a fresh cotter pin installed. There are shims front and back of the impeller, move/swap them to achieve the proper clearance between impeller and liner. BilletHead 1

I looked at the key and it looks a bit off- like maybe it was sheared at some point. I don't think I have a cotter pin anywhere on my impeller... http://flyinthesouth.com/
Jason R. Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 There isn't one locking the impeller nut ? It has one of those washers with the tabs that bend down to lock the nut. I don't see a hole anywhere for a pin. I wish it had a pin- the tab thing is stupid. Maybe it should have one- bought it used and its been monkeyed with. http://flyinthesouth.com/
BilletHead Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Jason/Wrench, Mine has the tab like yours does Jason so I doubt it has been monkeyed with. Jason R. Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Oh its been monkeyed with (not too bad)- just maybe not on that part. As far as I can tell, the dude that had it before spliced around all the fuses and disconnected the emergency kill switch. Also the reverse gate is thoroughly jimmy-rigged with various parts- works though. I also suspect the jet unit was destroyed or just replaced at some point- cuz its a different color but shouldn't be. The initial problem, and the reason I couldn't get it to run well was just the old hose fitting going to the gas tank (luckily). Its a pretty bad-A motor on the 14/48 its currently attached to. Thanks yall. http://flyinthesouth.com/
fishinwrench Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Tab, pin, whatever is fine as long as it keeps the nut from backing off. I was just thinking the ones for smaller motors had a pin. I know the older ones did. I'd prefer a stainless pin to a tab washer anyday just because you can get a replacement anywhere vs. the washer with a part#.
