Members dustin.hutchison91 Posted July 10, 2015 Members Posted July 10, 2015 Does anyone target carp on the James?
vonreed Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I have a few times. They can pretty much be anywhere. Below the Springfield dam can be a good spot because it's murky dirty water.
Members dustin.hutchison91 Posted July 10, 2015 Author Members Posted July 10, 2015 That's where I plan to try what do you use to catch em
Bushbeater Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 My father and grandfather always set lines on the Ozark lakes and rivers for carp with great success. Their favorite bait was cottonseed cake cut in 2" squares with a hole thru and a hook on each side. Is cottonseed cake still available and does anyone still use this method?
Mofloatjunkie Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Use a mix of wheaties, fruit punch cool aid powder, and garlic powder. When I was a kid we used to slay the carp under the dam on this bait. jbooth24 1
trythisonemv Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Fly rod works well with if you know where they are.
trythisonemv Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Also stop in plateau those guys are big into carping and know every thing about how to fly fish for them.
slab slinger Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Mofloatjunkie is right. Below dam at Springfield lake is top notch carp fishin. As a kid we would carp fish alot below dam in summer for fun. I second Mofloatjunkie on bait choice. Best bait I've found is Wheaties one box strawberry hello and strawberry pop. Crunch Wheaties and add hello start adding pop and mashing/ mixing till it holds a ball shape. Let stand and start making grape size balls to fish with. I like #4 treble hooks best. You can also chum area with can corn. Top notch Gar fishing below dam also if looking for fun and good fight. Good luck.
