Members riverdoc Posted February 6, 2007 Members Posted February 6, 2007 I wont reviel my "Honey Hole" but, I've never had a problem of catching fish on the Finley. Goggle-eye are plentiful, large mouth and small mouth likewise. Believe it or not. . we've also landed a few crappie. Plastic worms and jigs will produce. Fly rods are a hoot! Our best outings occur around 9:oo am in warm weather. However, be careful of the Bass taken, the may not be good to eat. In cleaning, I've found they are full of worms. To save the fish, when caught, look at the tail. If brown or dark specks are visible . . between the body and the tail . . . Give thanks and return them to the stream. These paracites are the result of run-off from pastures and fields, insecticides and who knows what else. None the less ..it's good fishing or, good for practicing your technique. And what about catfish? Got info about the Finley? Let's share it. And let's keep the river clean.

duckydoty Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 riverdoc Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty new to the area and have not fished the Finley yet. I keep getting drawn to Taney. The Finley seems to be a lot like the upper Big River from the looks of it. I might be able to get out and give it a try this summer. Too many places to fish around here. I've never had this problem before duckydoty A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Terry Beeson Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Ducky... tsk tsk tsk What is this "too many places to fish" you speak of? This does not compute!! But, hey... I'll be ready to hit the Finley and James both this spring myself... Dang fine lookin' spot on the James I cross every day on my commute. And the Finley looks good, too. Welcome to the forum, riverdoc. And give a couple of "Nixa Newbies" some hints on the Finley and James... Welcome Riverdoc. I too love the Finley. It holds a lot of fish and I've caught a few of those crappies on my flyrod. The biggest was a 13 incher that hit a popper.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted February 6, 2007 Root Admin Posted February 6, 2007 Thanks for posting on the Finley. Charlie Farmer can't be happy about any attention put forth on his favorite stream... unless it's to clean it up. Sorry- I think of Farmer every time the Finley is mentioned. In mapping the Finley, I found out some things about it... it's very long- alot longer and more fishable waters than most people know. I do want to fish it this spring, if time allows. And RD- you posted in the right place... but next time you should start your post under the Finley River Forum if you want to share any more of your secrets
Terry Beeson Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Terry, where do you cross the James at? And give up my secret honey hole? NEVER! OK... I take Nicholas Road (Inman school) all the way to Republic Rd... I wish MDC would buy a piece of that and make an access there...
