LoweSTX175
With all the different fishing line on the market I was wondering what time of line others are using when trolling. I am about to try the new Spiderwire Stealth in 15 pound strength. Typically I troll crank baits with a counter reel. Monofilament line tends to kink up when trolling. I finally got tired of changing out the line regularly. What types are others using?
blacknoseddace
I've been using 6 lb Stren mono BP had on sale and it seems to do OK. I use a snap swivel to avoid twist. When those plugs foul without a swivel lookout...you got a mess.
wtr dogs
10# mono Bass Pro or Stren. Have you tried taking the lure and any snaps off and running the line out to get the twists out? run it.faster than you would troll. Let me know how the Spiderwire works. zarraspook
I use PowerPro 10/2 for the main line ; then tie on a "high dollar" small swivel and tie 4-6 foot of 8# floro leader from the swivel to the lure.... I can get deeper than the lure is suppose to run and no/min line twists ... blacknoseddace 1 "Look up OPTIMIST in the dictionary - there is a picture of a fishing boat being launched"
mjk86
Mono has too much stretch IMO, i feel i miss a lot of bites. I like to use a braided line, with a very soft fiberglass 9ft rod, switching to this set up has caught me more fish than previously. Power pro depth hunter works best for me. Metered every 25 feet with black and white tick marks every 5. Great braid for longline trolling. Pick up a fish with x lure and y colors out, then you know exactly how deep they are, very easy to replicate and you dont need identical line counter reels. I also like leadcore line, but can usually get my baits deep enough with metered braid. blacknoseddace

The reason I ended up going with the new type of SpiderWire is due to the $5 rebate for 125 yard of line. I figured I'd give it a try. I actually never thought about it the leader like Zarra is talking about. I personally have like using the counter reels. I'm going to stop by Cabela's in KCK on my way home and get a few more. They are on sale this week. I plan to put various strengths of line for quick change out. I also agree on the longer pole. I've had issues with guys in my boat when I turn around after we get into fish. The longer the pole the easier it is to stay out of the motor. Makes sense, I do miss fish with the mono sometimes and have in the past thought they just weren't being too aggressive. I like the longer rod idea too. Thanks.
