Actually, your thread title is a little misleading. According to a quick Google search, EPA proposed no change in the use of E10 gas, but encouraged more use of E15 "in areas that can accomodate that fuel", which presumably doen't mean boats, and there is no evidence that E15 would replace E10. And, EPA is now under fire both from groups that oppose more ethanol use and the corn lobby which wants a lot more corn ethanol use. In addition, EPA's proposal actually falls short of mandates for ethanol use under the Renewable Fuel Standards originally passed by Congress and still in effect.

So EPA isn't the bad guy in this. It's up to Congress to change the standards that were SET BY CONGRESS. The Boat U.S. link you provided doesn't even mention the EPA, but rightly calls for CONGRESS to reform the Renewable Fuel Standards. If Congress doesn't act, it won't be because of the EPA, nor will it be because of lobbying by environmental groups, most of whom are NOT on board with more corn ethanol use. It will be mostly because of the corn growers lobby and other agricultural groups.

The EPA proposed cutting corn-based ethanol from the original Clean Air Act standards through 2016. A final decision is expected Nov. 30.

The RFS — passed into law in 2007 — calls for the use of increasing amounts of ethanol each year. In May, the EPA released the proposed volume obligations for 2015 and 2016.

The proposed standards decrease volume levels to 13.4 billion gallons for 2015 and 14 billion gallons for 2016. Congress scheduled at least 16.3 billion gallons for 2015 and 17.4 billion gallons for 2016.

In 2014, the U.S. used 15.9 billion gallons in 2014, some 1.7 billion gallons less than legislated.

I'm from iowa and understand it helps farmers. just political now in CO every October when ethanol kicked in my mileage went down 3 miles per gallon. Burning more is better. It's all BS our country is to get elected not what's best. Glad I'm old with no kids.
