Could a bent prop shaft effect performance to the tune of 900-1000RPM? Its probably got 1/16" to 1/8" of movement through the full turn of the prop(guessing using a coat hanger clamped down for a reference point) Is changing it out something someone could do on their own or is it best left to the professionals?

It can effect your max RPM but more importantly it is going to compromise your seals and gears if you keep running it.

If you have the proper tools and are mechanically inclined you could do it, but if you have to buy the manual and tools then you aren't saving much by doing it yourself. It only flat rates at 3.5 hours including complete reseal of the gearcase.

I think I have a prop shaft. Post up your serial number so I can be sure and if I do I'll beat any price you can find.

Yeah I was talking WOT RPM. The deal is I have had the boat 2 years and I don't recall hitting anything. My on dash tach didn't work so I bought a new one and my WOT RPM's are always 900-1000RPM low and I was taking my prop off to take to a shop and noticed the "wobble". Ill check my serial numbers. What specific tools will I need. I'm mechanically inclined and like learning new things just the biggest deal is time down + what am I going to get into once I get it opened. Also when I move my hanger I am using down the shaft with the prop off it is much closer to "true" leading me to think its bent outside the lower unit.

Wrench I've watched several videos online and I think your right….without the tools and the manual I'd probably be putting in more of my money and time than I would if I let someone fix it right.
