nhornback Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Planning to float this for the first time in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone could give me info on this stretch of the river I.e. length of float, must have lures, things to look for etc. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!
slab slinger Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Its a Good float. Think it's around 4.5 miles. Not sure exactly on distance but it usually takes me around 8 hours to float/fish it taking my time. I get in no hurry on the river so can't really tell you how long to just float it. Lures...Ned Rig, Small Cranks, Plastic Craws, Tubes, Bitsy Jigs, Top Waters Good Luck! Fishing should be good. Dougie 1
nhornback Posted August 9, 2015 Author Posted August 9, 2015 Awesome thanks! I thought it looked about 4 to 5 miles but never can tell for certain on a map. Plan on taking my sweet time and fishing every inch possible, just wanted to make sure it wasn't closer to 6 or 7 miles and still have 2 miles to go after 7 or 8 hours on the water. Nothing better than flipping critter craws into pockets on a river, can't wait.. Thanks again
moguy1973 Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 This page lists that float as a 6 1/2 mile float. http://www.missouricanoe.org/river-maps/jamesfinley.html CHuddleston 1 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Members Dougie Posted August 9, 2015 Members Posted August 9, 2015 I believe that is correct at 6.5 miles. The river is moving decent right now at a discharge at 980 cfps and a gauge height of 4.08. There is some great fishing in this section of the river, we have been doing well in the middle of the river on smallies on anything that looks like a craw. The float itself could be covered in 3 hours with no fishing at current discharge but like Mr Slab Slinger has mentioned above allow 8 hours and fish it all. Fish the banks and structure of course in the deeper holes and the middle going with the current in the riffles and have a great time and post some pics of your outing. Tight Lines and Big Smiles
Mofloatjunkie Posted August 9, 2015 Posted August 9, 2015 I have done this float a few times this year and the fishing for me has been awesome. Been catching goggle eye anywhere you can find chunk rock on yellow and red Ned rigs. Smallmouth were hitting small crank baits, the Ned, and tube baits. Look for some brush piles in deeper water and you might catch some crappie too. Good luck. If you have any questions let me know. I've been floating that stretch my whole life.
