I have a German Shorthair almost one and a half years old and could really use some work on live (actually dead) birds. I bought him with the intentions of training him to find sheds (which he does) but he has such a natural instinct when it comes to birds, I thought it would be a disservice to him to not hunt him. He's from Muddy Creek and was bred to hunt.

Where I deer hunt doesn't have a great dove population--anyone know of a place to go in SW Missouri other than Bois D Arc?

Talbot CA area - just north of Mt. Vernon is/was good. A lot land & I do not think you have to check in but you had better check on that on the MDC site.

I haven't hunted doves, or anything for that matter, since high school. I've been thinking about a good dove hunt and wondered about Bois D Arc. It used to have a pretty good population of birds around. I guess that has changed?

While we are asking, anyplace around Lake of the Ozarks? Wouldn't mind getting out and missing a few doves, just don't know where.

, just crowded at times.

Reminds me of going down to Weldon Springs on opening weekend. Reminds you of opening day at a trout park, except here, everyone is casting #7.5 steel shot.

Shoulder to Shoulder and <100 yrds across from you. Fighting over who shot the one bird that flew down the line. Everyone should put that on their Bucket List!

Don't forget to wear goggles!

+1 on all that !

B.K. leach, william logan, whiteside, and columbia bottom can offer good hunts during the week, not so crowded then.

Good looking dog.

I shop at the outdoor grocery store

Been there, done that! And your description was right on! My buddies first dove ever took rounds from at least 3 other guys, and was fluttering downward already when he hit it, dropping it at his feet. Who ever shoots last wins?

Its checked off my bucket list and I wont be doing that again!

Talbot usually has a lot of crops planted for doves and there really are a lot of birds on day 1, after that the birds are pretty scarce. Imagine opening day at a trout park, except instead of rods everyone has shotguns.

You do have to check in before and after each hunt.

Remember - If at first you DO succeed, try not to act surprised & quit while you're ahead.
