Members Chillfish Posted August 18, 2015 Members Posted August 18, 2015 I had the rare opportunity to fish three mornings this weekend. I have been on a mission the last month to figure out late summer walleye On bottom bouncers. It is a technique I had not had prior success with and everything has been new to me. It started as a struggle, but through hook, technique, and presentation changes I have learned each trip. This last weekend was the best for me so far. Not so much with size, but with quantity. I have been bouncing in 25 fow on long points going between .8 and 1 mph with crawlers and half crawlers. Colors in silver, copper, and light chartreuse. Friday morning we landed 6 with multiple misses, saturday morning was 7, with more misses and a good 20" plus getting off at the boat, and sunday with 7 more and probably 15 short bites. Looking back I should have set up on the point and jigged. Many of the bites came when the bait was bouncing off a snag or on purpose. Should have taken the hint. Every one of these were shorts, with an awful lot being 17 3/4.......frustrating. Also caught probably 15 catfish and more giant bluegill than you could shake a stick at. Each day we were on the water from 6 until 11:30 am. Pleasure boaters were nuts. Im pretty sure I have a big target painted on my boat that says "buzz me". And I think the cigarette boats and jet skis can see it the best. Tanderson15, J-Doc and Lance34 3
Ron Burgundy Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Good job. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
rps Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I know your pain. This late in the year, the larger fish will reaction bite on trolled baits. I have better luck on bottom bouncer fish earlier in the year. Of course I am always open to learning something new.

I was thinking the same thing, but I was doing really poorly with my trolling and it wasnt until I switched to the bb that I had any success. I did put 2 18's a 21, 22, and 23 Iin the boat doing this, but it wasnt his weekend jt was last weekend, when my numbers were lower. The thing that excites me is that I will be able to apply what im learning now next uear when the conditions are better. Smarter every day is the hope. Tanderson15 and J-Doc 2
J-Doc Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I swear the cigarette boats exist to endanger others. I hadn't seen them for a while. Then saw them Saturday. Labor Day can't come fast enough. After that, we should get out lake back. Good job on the bouncers!! Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
