ryan Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 My Dad came into town this weekend so we decided to run to Stockton and fish Saturday morning. Stayed within a few miles of 215 bridge. Fished points and brushpiles with spoons and plastic worms. Switched back and forth between bass and crappie/walleye. Probably had around 20bass biggest maybe 4lbs, we always let the bass go. Caught probably a dozen walleye but only 2 keepers, had 6 keeper crappie and 4 whites that we ended up saving for the dinner table. The walleye were a little slower than they had been and not as many keepers but still had a fun day and enjoyed fishing with my Dad. There is a strong thermocline that has developed around 25-30ft depending on where we were fishing and the bait fish are just rediculous this year. Hope you all had a great weekend, God bless. 5bites, LOGROG and Hunter75 3
Smithvillesteve Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 Thanks for the report Ryan. I will be going down to Stockton later on in the week and was wondering what was going on with the bass and the walleye. Sounds like you and your Dad caught a lot of fish. Thats great news. Enjoy fishing with your Dad. I sure wish i could fish with mine. If you could, could you expand a little on your techniques? I know you said spoons and plastic worms for the bass. How deep? In the thermocline? And the walleye? trolling cranks? jig and crawler? bottom bouncers? Not trying to be too "nosey" here Ryan. But any advice would be welcomed.
Hunter75 Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Good report, I've had a tough time finding the walleye this year, sounds like things might be picking up. Gonna have to get out there and try some more.
ryan Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 Fish were anywhere from 20-30ft, caught my walleye on the spoons. It seemed like they were scattered and you would catch one here and one there. I'm sure bottom bouncers would be effective, my Ranger boat carpet doesn't like night crawler bedding so I always just fish artificial :-). You could probably catch them trolling crank airs with lead core to get them deeper. Good luck.
Smithvillesteve Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 Thanks Ryan for sharing your info. Deeply appreciated. I use the paper worm bedding when fishing with night crawlers. I too hate the dirt/mud in my boat carpet. The bedding is excellent. I dont use spoons a lot. Sometimes up at Truman when trying to catch hybrids. I will have to give this a shot. I will also try the bottom bouncers. Once again, thanks Ryan.
LoweSTX175 Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 i like spoons for walleye and whitebass I have never used spoons. How are you guys using them? I assume you a drifting or setting up over brush and simply jigging them....
