Dan the fisherman Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Well I headed out of HSB at 1pm. Drove out to MN. I started with a drop shot and got bite immediately. Was about 11 inches and fat as a football. I kepted at it for about an hour without a bite so I left. Drove north a ways and caught this fat LM. Fished the same point without another bite. Moved more north and finally got into a good school of fish. Ended up with 5 smaller KB, 1 small SM, 1 good LM, and 6 KB over 12in.. All but the nice large mouth were caught on dropshot. Water temp was 78 and most fish were caught in 10-20 FOW Lance34 1
J-Doc Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Progress! The bite is picking up. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Dan the fisherman Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 Yes sir... I started drop shoting a few weeks ago... Man I wish I would have tried it sooner. ?
Old plug Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I been using it for a few years. Mine have 1/2 oz and larger bell sinkers on them ,0/5 hooks and anything from a magnum trickster in up as a rule
Stump bumper Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I been using it for a few years. Mine have 1/2 oz and larger bell sinkers on them ,0/5 hooks and anything from a magnum trickster in up as a rule That sounds more like a saltwater rig than a finesse rig, then again when I used to cast from the beach in Rhode Island my weights were always 1oz and larger but the hook was tied the same way as a drop shot. Right now with all the shad I think the slow fall of a small worm looks like a dying shad and that is why the hitting the small worm. But if that was true they would hit a spoon and I cannot get a bite on a spoon.
Old plug Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 That is a thing for a few of us at LOZ. When I say a few I mean we are a rare breed doing this. I can guarantee you it can be a real. Pain to use around brush and docks. It also can be very effective at times.
fisherofmen11 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 After several posts about the drop shot I tried again on Sunday afternoon and I finally was catching them. I was in Monte Ne and caught 4 all littles. I tried a spoon too and caught 2 crappie and one blue gill. Weirdest thing.
Dan the fisherman Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 I'll say this, I had to fish super duper slow! Dead sticking it at times to get the bite. Fish seemed to be wary. J-Doc 1

I think they are just full, not looking for a meal but unable to pass up an easy snack. Like leaving steak on a plate but taking that after dinner mint. J-Doc 1
Old plug Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 What they are doing is selective feeding. They are foraging on shad and 99% of the time that is all they want. Your best bet with artificial right now is getting them out of to reaaction. Usually that means a fast retrieve. Champ188 and J-Doc 2
