dnj21 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Fished last two hours of daylight in trophy area, pretty slow. Saw the guys right in the outlet doing okay on what looked like Scuds. No one else did much, little more water running than I expected limited wading. A couple spin casting with floating jointed Rapalas was catching a few off shore, just getting going at dark. Was fishing a #18 grey scud under a San Juan worm, few hook ups, nothing interesting Anyone other than Jester down this weekend? Let us know how you did!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 17, 2015 Root Admin Posted October 17, 2015 I fished about 90 minutes- quit at dark. Boated to Lookout and fished the Stimulator. Lots of rising fish in the seams of current along the bluff bank. Caught 3 rainbows- chunks. Dropped a #18 rusty midge under the dry and caught one, broke if off. Switched to a 3/32nd oz jig. White - nothing. Brown/orange/orange head - 3 rainbows. One went 18 inches. Broke off. Then threw a sculpin - nothing. Ran out of light. Saw a bunch of mayflies hatching - I think the rainbows were rising on them. That would have been a first if they were. Tons of midges coming off.
JestersHK Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 We started at 8. Pretty slow, but we've caught 7 bows so far all on white maribous. First fish was a 3 foot gar. That's my luck. We are heading back out here in 20 min or so. A bit chilly tonight.
dnj21 Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Lol- would love to see the look on your face when you spotted the Gar coming at you!! Started a little after 500 throwing big Streamers on the 8wt. Nary a nibble on several different choices. Switched to 5wt and Scuds around daylight. Did better today after I added a Scud dropper. Fished that for an hour, caught a few. Changed to smaller olive scud dropper but no luck. Finally switched to #18 black zebra midge and caught another before heading to breakfast. Only a a few boats all the way up, but outlet area got crowded after daylight. Hope everyone else is doing well!!
JestersHK Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Must have missed ya. We finished up with 12 total. 8 on white maribous. Then some crackle backs and San Juan worm. Caught 3 bows right around 20 inches, one silver bow took me for a ride. Caught 2 Browns the biggest was a nice 16 inches. I'm in a red hoodie if ya see me. The bite stopped at dawn and yes it sure was packed. We are going to the hatchery as this is my cousins first time down.
