I got both shades of olive. But they did not call it light and dark. I feel they should have. But I like the dark olive myself real well it is that brownish green that is so effective on LOZ. . Another color I have used as a accent on the top of the jig is that stuff they call burnt orange. i just love the color of it is all. Do not see any differance it its attraction though

You guys usually fish your gig in the river. I fish mine here . My buck tail Jig is is usually about 4” long or better. With the attachment of a big creature bait the whole works can be over 7 inches.

I've tied and used a lot of hair jigs over the years, but some years ago, I started making a rather unique hair jig. It's made of spun deer body hair. Before I moved from KY, a few guys were winning a lot of tournaments with them on KY Lake and Lake Barkley. A neat thing about them, is if you douse it with scent when dry, it will hold that sent all day. Trimmed butts on the head are like a scent sponge. I call them Flair Hair Jigs.

Yeah the ones we are throwing for smallies on the river are about 2" (1/8 or 3/16 oz).. And 2.5" to 3" with the trailer. I've been considering tying some slightly bigger/heavier hair jigs for winter fishing on LOZ. With the rain in the forecast for this weekend, I may do just that.

That's pretty cool that it holds scent. Most hair doesn't play well with scent.

Great looking jigs Ron! Do you do sharpen the hook on those Arkie stand-up heads? I used to throw chompers on them, but the hook was crap IMO

If any of you watched the BFL All American on NBC sports yesterday it was awesome. A local named Jeremy Lawyer the SW MO area did really well and about won it with a 2nd place finish. I've fished some of the BFL's and talked to him. He is a great fisherman and an even better guy. He was throwing a big hair jig with a swimbait trailer on Kentucky Lake. He would throw it out let it sink down a ways and then crank super fast 3-4 times and stop. It was a really neat presentation to watch and gave me some knowledge. Here is the link if you guys want to watch.

Yeah the big 5-7" shad patterned hair jigs really seemed to make a splash on the big tournament trails over the last 2 years. Seemed to be an important tool for the offshore/ledge fisherman

That's pretty good! It's hard to believe they have guys netting fish for them.

I know it is a lot of fun to tie a lot of concoctions and experiment. But i am somewhat set in my ways and not very creative to boot so will not be able to really contribute to much to this thread. This picture is more or less what all my jigs look like. I have different sizes and a few different colors but that's it. This  one is a 1/2 oz size in dark olive with a watermellon pepper trailer. The trailer is a full sized brush hog. I remove those little loops and in this case about 1/2 inch of the nose.I really put more emphasis on my trailers than my jigs. i do like to make them sort of match up most of the time. I am a big fan of the brush hog series.

Very Nice OP... I can see why those LOZ bass like em. The brush hog is a killer bait down there year in and year out.
