Wolves found, but left in wild

BRANSON WEST — Although Predator World officials have located their escaped timber wolves, they’re not out of the woods, yet.

On Thursday officials of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s animal care unit’s director to launch an investigation against Branson West attraction Predator World.

“Roadside zoos like Predator World deprive animals of their basic needs, and when the animals see an opportunity to escape their dreary lives, they often take it,” PETA Director Debbie Leahy said. “Predator World failed to properly enclose these wolves and put their safety —not to mention the community at large —at risk because of it.”

The letter to the USDA, which was written by PETA Captive Exotic Animal Specialist Lisa Wathne states, “We ask that if it is determined that the escape of the wolves happened because Predator World’s failure to comply with the provisions of the (Animal Welfare Act), you take the steps to revoke its license.”

The timber wolves escaped from the attraction last Thursday.

Breck Wakefield, owner of Predator World, theorized that the wolves escaped from the zoo so the pregnant female could find a place to have her cubs away from the other animals on display at Predator World.

Stone County Sheriff Richard Hill confirmed Friday afternoon that the location of the animals had been found, but officials were waiting to recapture the wolves until after the female has her litter for fear of the effect tranquilizers will have on the unborn cubs.

Wakefield said at the time of the wolves’ escape that the female was “a few weeks” away from giving birth.

Predator World owners could not be reached as of press time.

Yeah, but on the brighter side, if PETA is getting all hot and bothered about Predator World, maybe they'll send some of those naked supermodels and actresses down to Branson for some demonstrations!

hehehehehe - couldn't resist to finally respond to this thread. I really think there is a farside type cartoon waiting to happen on this one -

Two wolves finally escape from what PETA calls their "dreary lives" in captivity -only to find that they have escaped into THE OZARKS!!!!!!!! (insert music from shower scene in Psycho) - - - next scene shows the wolves clawing back at their pens trying to get back in - behind them is a bunch of rednecks with guns and duck calls hanging around their necks and camo clothing on and cabelas hats, all running at them in a big ol' Ozarks carnivore cluster.

Ahhhh yes - could be a good one!

Good posts though - we have had other posts concerning wolves on this board and they usually go the same way  - I too would much rather be in the wilderness with wolves (and have been) then the above mentioned "pack" of bipeds.

Yeah, I doubt hunters and Ozark natives want to spend much time around YOU, either.
