Guest Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I believe that, Coons can get into all kinds of mischief. I had a coon that opened my game camera & tore up the internal wiring, recently. That coon might end up being a coonskin hat.

I had one almost exactly like that for years A friend gave me several pieces of steel shorts and I built the one in the picture about 5 or 6 years ago.It is 24"by 30" The top is treated wood rest is 1 1/4 steel angles welded together. It hangs from steel cables in my unused stall attached to a pully and winch as it does not float. I can lower it about 10 ft. Into the water. Keeps the racoons away from it. Believe it or not I have known them to figure out latches. I have had many problems with raccoons. Very Nice Old Plug... In retrospect I probably should have done stainless steel or even just PVC pipes... I do not have any welding tools or skills though... And I thought the wood looked nice. I treated it with 4 coats of weatherproof decking stain, used all galvanized hardware, and PVC coated chicken wire. Hopefully it holds up for several years.
WHARFRAT Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 We have otter problems around our docks, and I would think they'd tear up one of those wooden boxes. @lozcrappie

We have had raccoons open the lid previously and steal the crappie out but it's been awhile... Have yet to notice otters.
MOPanfisher Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Wharfrat, put a piece of existing glass in as a divider and build a door that opens down instead of up. Mr otter can swim in but not out and they drown.
