Ranger520vx
Finally got moved down here and was wondering when the Walleye run starts. I used to fish the spring run on the Maris De Cyne and you could start catching them up there in late January or early February. With the high river flows on the Pomme it's got me thinking about catching some. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott
drew03cmc
Just curious, where did you live on the Marais Des Cygnes? I'm in Baldwin, about 15 miles from Ottawa. Andy
Ranger520vx
I lived on the Missouri side pretty much straight east of Lacygne Ks. Used to fish mostly south of Virginia Mo. at the Marvel bridge.

Al Agnew
For what it's worth, all the old time walleye anglers on the Black and Current believed the walleye invariably started their spawning run around mid-February, because that's when they would disappear from the big deep pools where they spent the winter and where those guys fished for them all winter. They said it was a waste of time to fish the big pools after the second full week of that month. The years I spent fishing for those walleye fairly regularly showed me that they were pretty much right, since I never caught any after the middle of February, either. Of course, those were the native White/Black river system walleye. The walleye of the Osage river system might have slightly different genetics to begin with and also their gene pool might be altered by stockings of other strains throughout the years. It might make a difference on when they begin to move.
fishinwrench
I know that they begin showing up in lake O tribs way before the white bass do. My early white bass explorations almost always turn up zero Whites but a few walleye. I'd say that they are the first sign of life in the creeks every year. Members oodlesiggy
Last 2 weeks of March. Length of daylight affects them more than water temp in my opinion. You may find a few earlier, the same as you will find a few stragglers late.

Members Cateyes
I’ve been trying to figure out the walleye in Marais de Cygne river for years, was thinking about going out but I am worried the river is too high now with the rains, when do the walleye quit biting up near the state line? Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
