Smallie Seeker Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I've got a buddy who loves to fish. Now I'm not going to name names, lets just say it rhymes with Narcus! And he bass fishes with 100% spinning gear because he hates getting birdsnest'. I have been saying for a while that the newer baitcasters with their multi-braking using centrifugal and magnetic systems almost eliminate backlashes, and that a lot of bass techniques like pitching/flipping, and casting crankbaits just work better with a baitcaster than spinning and is a lot more enjoyable. Told him I'd get him one its just that much better and finally did it. This spring at TR he will be chucking wiggle warts with a Johnny Morris Signature Limited Edition LH baitcaster. Picked it up off Ebay new for $71 shipped. Did I do good? Never had a JM. I've used the Pro Qualifiers before and liked them. Either way, the baitcaster challenge is on! My guess is we will have another convert by the end of the summer. Also got myself a New Tatula reel and Tatula 7' M rod on clearance at BPS for $205. First time using either. Any fans or critics? marcus 1
jpb2187 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I'm a big Daiwa fan. Like the Tatula series alot. I've owned all 3 in the Tatula series - the baitcasting reels, rods, and spinning rods. The baitcasting rods and reels are great. I use the 7'1 ML for most of my cranking. It can really sling some smaller sized crank baits well which I like. The reels are very smooth and powerful for the price point. I would avoid the spinning rods however, at least the 6'11" medium lt. They have a very very slender tip and mine splintered after very minimal use. Took pretty good care of it, and a lot of the reviews I read afterwards mentioned the same breakage. Smallie Seeker 1

ciRe Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 My father never once has used a bait caster. Was always spinning tackle and still the same right now. I asked for one during Christmas time and got one. I had no clue how to use it but when spring came around I was determined. I tried and tried until I finally just gave up because of back lash after back lash. Went to one a few years ago and never looked back. Knowing how to set one up for a new user is key. I still do use a spinning rod for all my light tackle. I went out today to a local StL lake and caught 3 LM on my new Revo and was a blast.
