Ted Calcaterra Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Is anyone using the Minn Kota I pilot on river jons like a topwater or supreme? How do they perform in tailwaters and smaller rivers like the Meramec or Gasconade? The new one with auto trim and retract looks pretty sweet!
grizwilson Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 Have the Terrova on my lake boat, it would be swell on my trout boat when time to replace that is what I will do. g “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
sean c Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Not sure of its benefits in rivers I mainly use mine lake fishing make sure you try before you buy. I have one on a 15 foot Jon just got a new boat and debating if I want to keep it or get rid of it. I have been pretty underwhelmed with mine it's annoyingly noisy the spot lock function isn't as tight as I expected it to be and it is a bit quirky. I'm really too impatient to learn and use some of the other features even though they seem like they might be beneficial so the jury is still out. I will probably mount it to my new boat dedicate one more season to it and really give it a chance but if it's more of the same I'm going back to a bow mounted tiller and if my main use for a trolling motor was on rivers it certainly wouldn't be my first choice.
duckydoty Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I have the Terrova with I pilot and use it on Taney. I like the remote and navigation feature while guiding. Captain Steve Dickey also uses one and likes it a lot . Spot locking is usually not needed on tailwaters but I do use it around the landing while fishing for crappie. The gps takes a minute or two to account for wind and current while spot locking but like I said not really needed while fishing tailwaters A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!!
