Flatbottom Boy Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Looks like we are going to have a week in the 50s, or better, so I was thinking of hitting the little sac next weekend. Is the water fishable yet? I was hoping the warmer temps might trigger a few walleyes into moving into the river. Probably put in around Aldrich.
trythisonemv Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 I was thinking the same thing. Couldn't hurt to try since it will be so nice. Id say the water has dropped plenty and started to clear up. I think its going to be a good white bas year up there. All the way to taylor should be cleaned out and have enough water for a good run of whites and if the walleye are going to move itll be soon.
Flatbottom Boy Posted February 16, 2016 Author Posted February 16, 2016 If your up that way and see me say hello. Ill be in a 16/48 with a 25 yamaha on the back. Probably a dog in tow. Good luck!
bwcballer10 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 If you make it up there let us know how you do. I usually start trying around Aldrich the 1st week of March for the whites and walleye. I work in Springfield Public Schools and our spring break starts the 5th of March this year. Hopefully lots of warm weather between now and then, can't wait to get after them!
Flatbottom Boy Posted February 16, 2016 Author Posted February 16, 2016 Of course I'll leave a report...I have quite a drive to get to the Sac, that's why I inquired before the drive. I have nothing better to do this weekend anyway so I'll dive in and figure it out and let you guys know. The great guys on this forum have kept me from wasting tons of time on first time trips in the past, hopefully I can return the favor! If anything the weather is going to be awesome, I don't need the fish to cooperate much to have a good time! Hog Wally, Daryk Campbell Sr and bwcballer10 3
bwcballer10 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Made a short trip to Taylor Sunday afternoon... saw a few whites being caught and even caught one myself. Amazing weather and it was pretty nice to catch my first river white of the year AND its only February 21st. trythisonemv 1
Flatbottom Boy Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 I made it down for a couple hours Saturday morning. Threw a rouge and wiggle wart and even tried a 3"grub for a bit. Not a bite. I put in at Aldrich and went into the river a couple miles Im guessing. Not having any confidence I loaded up the boat and headed to LOZ. I look forward to giving that a try again when the water warms some!

bwcballer10 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 All the fish I saw were the keeper size males already (10-12 in) didn't see any of the real small males. I don't think there is very many in the rivers yet but if the warm weather keeps rolling it shouldn't be long. I think catching that one did me more harm than good though, now I just keep thinking about taking the canoe or john boat over there and trying right below Aldrich. But as I said before I don't think the whites are there in numbers yet...
slab slinger Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Fished the Little Sac my whole life and kept fishing records every year. With this great Feb. weather it's hard not to try the whites early. My first limit of whites on the LS is always on or shortly after March 15. That seems to be around the time the first heavy surge of males head up the river. Not saying they're not there earlier but not in Good numbers. If your targeting river walleye nows the time to start getting serious till the end of March. Good luck guys.
