I just got a little 14 x 36 jon boat and was wondering about putting a front deck with a pedestal seat on it.  I've seen photos of tons of them like that.  I was just wondering it that would be very stable..  Opinions are of course welcome, but I'm hoping for some first hand experience.

Thanks

I have done it...... its stable enough if you aren't expecting it to be like a bass boat

Only if your pedestal base is close to the water line.  Don't elevate the deck more than a couple inches from the water line and it will be fairly stable.   The higher above the water line you go, the less stable it becomes.

Whoops, I meant to put this in the boat topic.  Sorry.

Thanks for the info so far.

Another thing, when you put a 2nd person in the boat it's a whole new game. I had my deck up against the top lip of my boat and it was great solo (I stand a lot when kayak fishing, its A LOT more stable than that ). I wouldn't do it if you don't have it on a trailer though, it adds enough weight to make truck bed loading suck.
