DainW Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Since I had to modify my plans due to weather/flows on the last trip, I'm thinking about making another trip to Missouri sometime in the last half of April. This time, a buddy and I are considering doing a two day overnight float, looking to getting into some trout. My question is, between the eleven point and NFOW, which river would you recommend for this type of excursion this time of the year? As far as fishing goes, which river fishes better mid-spring? Thanks, Dain
Greasy B Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 If you going to camp on the river definitely 11PT. Too many no trespassing signs and purple paint on NFOW. No fun camping in someones back yard. DainW Posted March 21, 2016 Author Posted March 21, 2016 Ok so the camping on the river part, I'm not necessarily dead set on. I mean it would be nice, but aren't there public campgrounds and/or cabins available on the NFOW? What about from a fishing standpoint? Which river fishes the best that time of year?
Greasy B Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Yes camping and cabins. I'll leave the fishing advice to others who are more knowledgable. Russell Doughty Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Not much camping on the nfow as mentioned above, but several options for rooms and cabins. Rolf and Sunburst to name a few. Google River of Life Farm.
Ozark Sweetwater Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 NFOW is fishing good right now and if flows stay up, it will be good in April. Day 1 float Kelly to Sunburst. Camp at Sunburst. Day 2 float Sunburst to The Landing. DainW and Johnsfolly 2 http://ozarksweetwater.com

DainW Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Ok just booked the canoe to float Kelly to Sunburst on Sunday. Anyone have any fishing reports? What about advice as far as flies, techniques etc? Was planning on mostly nymphing deep with rubber leg stone fly nymph as my point and then I don't know what behind that.
Russell Doughty Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Try a prince nymph below a Pat's rubber legs for nymphing the nfow. Also try a nitro caddis if you can find them.
DainW Posted April 29, 2016 Author Posted April 29, 2016 Thanks for the info that was a good rig. Fished on Sunday and we caught about 15 between my buddy and myself. Most of the best fishing was in the 2 or 3 good riffles before you hit the waterfall and the area below the falls itself. Major takeaway is next time hire a guide with a boat. We missed out on a lot of good water that we weren't able to fish from the canoe.
