I fished yesterday and got on a hot white bass bite. I caught them nearly every cast from 830 to 11 or so and then tried for walleye. I zeroed there but dipped a brush pile for a second and caught a couple of crappie. So I spent the rest of my day crappie fishing. There are a lot of fish in the river right now. I ran as far up as my jet would let me but the water was down quite a bit. Could you see the falls ? Or is the water not that low
marcusearlt Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 We ran up the WE yesterday, all the way to War Eagle bluff just below the mill. Fish were scattered, caught them if riffles, holes, off rocks and near dirt, etc. No real clear winner in terms of method or location. Used small jerkbaits, clousers and swimbaits. Ended the day with around 40, a mixed bag of whites and spots. All fish were very small but hey I'm not complaining! I had a wonderful time. Very pretty scenery and plenty of hook-ups to keep us entertained. Lots of people out, with the majority reporting mediocre results and some claiming to have blanked. Is it over...?... OR has it yet to begin....?.... "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong." John Gierach
Dan the fisherman Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Man I wonder if the "run " will ever really take off, or if it'll just be waves of fish? Stump bumper 1

Bass are bedding now, I have even seen carp moving up. The "run" didn't happen and it is just late spawners now. I really think the visibility had something to do with them clumping together.
Dan the fisherman Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Probably right stump. I remember catching big females by HC a month ago with ya. I'm sure those girls moved up a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to take the yaks up by goshen this week and see if I can hook up to some whites there.
hoglaw Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I hope yall do dan. I'm done with the run for this year. I had one good day on whites and three poor days on them with plenty of walleye. Pretty good spring for thinking I wouldn't. e able to get out much. Next trip will be friday or some day next week down to the arkansas river for crappie. I know there are plenty in beaver, but we can catch 60 and keep nothing smaller than 12" down there with lots of 2 lb fish. Hoping to get on one good slab fest trip then bill some hours before the powers that be get mad at me for fishing so much! Lance34 1
marcusearlt Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Same here, think I'm over (maybe) the whites too. Had 3 trips for whites, each with varying levels of success. Almost time to switch gears to those hard fighting brown fish, after a few vacation days to target those cold water fish. Dan - Let us know how you do over at Goshen. According to the time-stamps on some photo's I took, this very day 3 years ago we were wearing them out down there. Could still be some action to be had.
