Those are my exact words.  The way I see it a couple of dozen minnows cost about $5... if I lose a crank every now and then it comes out even.  But I feel confident on the flats I can back up and get them free.

When you troll the flats how deep are you when bumping the bottom? And, are you doing this with your lead core line. I'm obviously not a sophisticated troller. The areas I troll are usually 18 to 30 feet and during a certain window of time in the Spring. Your input makes sense though. Do you do this all summer? I apologize if you  have to rehash on this because of prior posts.

I catch walleye the best in May on the Flats in 12-16 FOW beating a crankbait on the bottom.  Usually sunrise and sunset are the best times.  The red fire tiger crankbait that I mentioned earlier works very well for this.  I always wondered if sunfish are spawning on those flats at that time!

I'm in about 10-15 FOW.  I use the lead core sometimes....but this year I'm going to use it full time on the flats.  I will troll the entire Spring/Summer/Fall unless I try to sit on top of a brush pile.
