Members Dollar Bill Posted April 13, 2016 Author Members Posted April 13, 2016 I admit I'm uneducated on the spawning habits of white bass but here's what I learned. These sows are ready! I cleaned 15 and there was only 1 male. The egg sacs were not only big, they were so soft I could hardly touch them before they broke apart and the contents flushed down the sink drain. I can't imagine they were going further up river. I always thought they spawned up river way before the "lake fish" did but now I'm even more confused... Is this fun or what!
Ketchup Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 In a typical year they will go further up the rivers to spawn. Now that the days are getting longer, that will trigger the fish more than water temps. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
MOPanfisher Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Being fish that don't make beds and just spawn in the open they prefer to spawn on river gravel etc. However if those conditions don't happen the exact way they like it and they are caught in the lake with a belly full of eggs and the amount of sunlight and water temps are saying spawn or forget it, well they are gonna spawn and let the eggs take their chances. Fish that make beds will often re-absorb the eggs if conditions are too far outside their needs, but its amazing how versatile they can be to get off a spawn, but the success of the spawn will vary with conditions.
slab slinger Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Those are pigs. Haven't found any that size up in the river yet. Nice job.
