I'm boat less and wishing I didn't now that I see people catching big stripers. ? Im glad youre okay, because it couldve been worse. (not knowing your circumstance) War Eagle is full of timber if you get 10ft away from the channel. Most of it hides just below the surface. I was able to make a GPS trail in War Eagle when the lake was 1115ft in December 2012. otherwise, theres no way Im running on plane past the overlook. I see folks cutting across the flats in War Eagle all the time, this includes the Pros. Its not a good idea. I hate that you lost your lower unit. Sometimes bad luck just ruins the day. I can post my GPS trail if you like. at least to prevent anybody else from destroying their boat. I use a 10-1 rule at beaver. Cutting across a 30ft deep flat is like running a 3ft sandbar. Too many stumps & trees on deep flats. I never run past the sidewalk hole on plane. the channel gets crazy & timber is bank to bank.

Thank u and I totally agree, it could have been a lot worse and really do feel lucky. Also ur a 100% right on the description of war eagle. Honestly, I just deviate 10-15 feet from where I normally cruise and managed to hit a submerged tree ( that I never saw) at 40 mph. One thing is for sure, I won't get out of the channel up there again.
