Bull Shoals was the first Ozark lake I ever fished. Bud Erhardt routinely fished a jig and pig on a spinning rod and 4#-6# line. I was shocked when I found out how opposed to finesse and light line folks were at TR. Not all, but many. Guess that is the legacy of trees and largemouth.

have not heard anyone mention bud's name forever.  yes, many bull shoals locals grew up fishing the light line.  but, back when table rock actually had trees, the light line did not mix with them well.

I'm sure between more cover and less pressure you could get away with heavier rope. Even 20 years ago you could go fish bushy cedars and just catch them. Hard to even find one now.

Bud could really fish. He was one of those gentleman who fished in ways that were simultaneously very simple, and as sophisticated as equipment of the time would allow. An excellent finesse fisherman...little worms, hair jigs, light line. Did a lot to improve the fishery he loved as well.
