fowlthing Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Got on the water at 8:00 am. Caught 24. Mostly the Ned. PBJ and watermelon green. Most in 10 ft or so. Caught some on top water, jerkbait. Fluke Top water was by docks over deeper water. 6 keepers. But nothing beyond 16 ". Had a great time. Done by 1:30. Got a couple on the swimbait. Should have thrown crankbait. Got no bites on the jig,or biffle bug. Thanks so so much for those that post here. It is very helpful and make the week go faster. Question. Has anyone tried Texas rigging a Ned worm? I am going to try next time out.. merc1997 Bo and magicwormman 2

Has anyone tried Texas rigging a Ned worm? I am going to try next time out.. Yes, but it has the same issues as any TX rig on TR. That bullet likes to find a nice crack in the rocks and stay there. I punch some in the summer on a TX rig. It's a real chore to find a hook that works well for it. Offsets will just let it slide right down. Most sproat flip hooks are too large. You just abut have to modify each one with a keeper of some sort.
fowlthing Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 Thanks. I super glued the Ned to the hook. Bet I go back to a jig head.

Have yet to find anything as effective as the little jig. Even tried some little swing heads. Had high hopes for those, but think it just moved too much. bluebasser86 1

fowlthing Posted May 2, 2016 Author Posted May 2, 2016 That sure does look good. But must not act the same. I used an Aaron Martens jig head some, the hook set is great, but wish it had a flatter more stand up head. The angle of the eyelet or something really works for great hook set.

I think that's just a Gamakatsu 90 degree 111 heavy hook in those. Maybe a 2/0. Pretty big for a Ned.Your elaztech bait should stand up with most heads, if the hook is under 1/0. Bigger and it starts to tip backwards. Not elaztech, and it is just going to lay over.
fowlthing Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Yes the hook is a too big. A shorter hook would be better. I always use the z tech. Wonder if a slightly more football head would be helpful. Is is the eyelet position why the hook set is so good??

It's just a regular 90 degree eye, like any ball head/dart head/etc. Shouldn't make much difference in getting the hook into them. Angle should be essentially the same on the bottom as any of the spot remover type heads, chompers stand up head, etc. Are you trying to reel into them, or hammer them? I fall into the pound them group. Reel sets will break your heart with the little guy. Brown fish and spots in particular will clamp down tight on it, and you need to move that bait in order to get a hook into them. There are days they just hook up better, really. When I started fishing the little deal I had to get over the odd missed set or lost fish, and learn to view it from the perspective of being able to get 30-50 more bites. It all sort of works out to a push most days. Bummer when it happens with a good one, but I know by fishing it I will have more opportunities. MOBASSIN83 and Fishin4Fun 2
