Members JBulcock Posted May 4, 2016 Members Posted May 4, 2016 Hello all!! New to the site and the area! I just moved to The Springfield area with my wife and we love to fish. I came from central Kansas and have only fly fished taneycomo in this area. We are thinking about trying some walleye and crappie fishing on Stockton on Thursday and just have a few questions. We live in southern Springfield and wondering the best ramp to use from where we are coming from. I've been reading quite a bit on this site and it seems like the walleyes are biting fairly well. Wondering if there are any places for us to start looking once we get on the water, not looking for anybody's hot spots just a couple of places to look. Thanks in advance
nhornback Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Not much help on walleye hot spots, mainly a bass guy, but I'm also in south springfield and the mutton creek or Cedar ridge access points are the two ive used. About an hour drive give or take. Welcome to the area and good luck tomorrow! Nick
mjk86 Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Pull night crawlers on jigs or spinner rigs and troll flicker shads. Prolly start shallow (10ft) and work your way out to 20. Good walleye spots for me have been around the masters islands. Chicken rock area, and around point 7, but they are all over. I typically don't get down there till at least late may, but that works well for me then.
Smalls21 Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 state park ramp is pretty good, no charge to launch there either, pretty much a centralized launch ramp
Kramr Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 If your going to fish for walleye be sure to get the White River Border Lakes permit for Missouri. It let's you use your Missouri fishing license on Norfork Lake and Bull Shoals lake in Arkansas. It's only $10 extra and it's good for the whole year. dan hufferd 1
