Lance34 Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Got out Friday mid day. Went up the river arm and started in the mouth of a creek and pushed towards the back. Caught a couple out front of the creek over 18-20 feet of water about 8 feet down, but the bite got better further in on the edge of a couple of small flats about 12-14 feet of water about 8-10 feet down. They where all suspended out there and I just kept going back and forth over them several times. One pass I catch one or two the next nothing. The bite seemed to do better with a tail wind. Just figured it to be the baits where a little higher and moving faster in the water column. And also maybe boat splash under the bow. I did try a couple passes in shallower water about 6-8 feet of water about 5-6 feet down and caught one smaller male and hooked up to another male that was as long as my hand and forearm, but lost it at the surface. Dang!! Lost a couple more bigger ones that way at the surface as well. One I was just setting the rod down in the holder and it dipped down and caught me off guard and the other was on my front rod and I my foot was still on the trolling motor as pulled her up and I just put too much pressure on the line and fish I reckon. Geez I was using an Arkie double hook rig with a 2 inch Arkie black chartreuse or purple/chartreuse tube jig, and also BPS swimming squirts black/chartreuse with a little red in the tails. All tipped with minnows. Moving about about .5-.8 mph Boated 18-20 I think... I don't I lose count! And just kept six. Going to be off the water the next three weeks. But, once back going to start pulling cranks. Also planning to switch over to using 16 foot rods down the road so if anybody wants some cheap 12 foot rods touch base with me. Here is a pic of some of the fish. God bless and have a good one. Dan the fisherman and Vinsott 2
Stump bumper Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 Sorry you are not going to be on the water for so long, when you get back rig up for Stripers. If you could keep us updated on the stripers like you do crappie we would have to password protect your post. Lance34 1
Robert Haynes Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 That is the most detailed report you will find on any forum. The only thing it lacks is gps cords. (Not asking). I've got 1 day of fishing this week then off to Ft Walton Beach for a week. The pole has to stay home cuz I know if I take it, I will be driven to fish every day and ruin the trip for my wife. (Maybe I can hide one of those telescopic rods in my suitcase). Thanks for the report! Lance34 1
Ron Burgundy Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Always enjoy your reports Lance, you've got them figured out. Lance34 1 Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford

Robert Haynes Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 We fish eight days on the gulf coast in October or November every year. My wife said she's been at all of that deer camps and fish camps that she ever wants to be at. She said if I wanted her to continue to go with me to the coast to fish in the fall that I would have to improve our lodging or she would not go. I asked for three days to make a decision. Another bad move
hoglaw Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Now that's funny. Let me marinate on that for a while and get back to you.
