Flatbottom boy, thank you for the offer. My dad was actually going to follow us down there and shuttle us if we decided on the gasconade. We live in Linn so it not really that far of a drive. We are still keeping the Buffalo in mind. I have always wanted to try the upper niangua so maybe I can make some phone calls on that tommorow. A buddy told me awhile back if I wanted to do the niangua to call a guy they call "River Jim". Anyone know of him? Would this be a good guy to call?

Looking at the Guage at Mountain View it looks like the jacks fork is already dropping. Al I know I've seen you often post about this river. Would this still possibly be an option by Friday morning.

I'm in the process of planning something for the Buffalo but would like to use that as a last minute resort.

I just PMed u some info on River Jim

his website is  www.riverjim.com  he also tells the distance of different Niangua Floats

You could try Linda at Outdoor Adventures on the Niangua. I've only used her for the section below Bennett but she is wonderful.

Just read some trip reports on here to give you access, mileage and pretty much all the info you need for a quickly planned trip.

Thanks ramman. I have actually looked at river Jims website before. I think I can whip up a trip on the niangua pretty quick.

And thank you everyone else for the quick responses and private messages. I got lots of ideas to toss around. It's just gonna come down to waiting a day or 2 then making some calls about the water.

Jacks Fork looks to have peaked, and assuming no more rain (forecast looks like a 20% chance Friday but that's about it) it would probably be in decent shape by then.  I'd guess probably still flowing 300-400 cfs and dropping by Friday.  If it's a nice weekend, though, it will probably have quite a few canoes on it.

Thanks Al. Hate to be dealing with lots of other floaters but that may be just something we have to deal with this time. In the past we have always done out trips during the week but the brother got a new job so weekends are our only option  now.

Talked to River Jim about the niangua this morning and unfortunately it's not sounding good. He says the river is not in good shape. Someone private messaged me a few creeks so hopefully one of those works out. If they don't its looking like jacks fork. It seems to be dropping pretty fast

Where did you wind up going?  Hopefully you got out somewhere!

My brother in law had a sub-par weekend at the Buffalo and said a lot of stretches were pretty crowded.

We did get to go. Got out on a creek that was sent to me in a private message. Report with a few pics coming soon. I've been on the road working this week so havnt had time to post and pics are at home. Hopefully I'll be home this evening.

Awesome, can't wait to see it. That is the right way to send someone on a good trip (via PM).  Hopefully your report doesn't leave any clues as to where the creek is!

We ended up making the trip to sw mo to hit a creek that was recommended by another member on here. He hooked us up with a shuttle which was awesome!

The fishing was pretty good by numbers if you fished slow but they were all pretty small fish. I think the biggest was 13".  We eventually abandoned the slow fishing and threw some big spinners and some wtd lures in hopes of catching a few larger fish but we  never did.

There really isn't anything  exciting to report. Just a good ol relaxing camping trip.  G0020012.JPG

This was about the average size.

If you look there is 2 snakes in the picture. There were 3 when I took it but I don't see the third.
