Members jattrout Posted May 19, 2016 Members Posted May 19, 2016 Just wondering what any ones thoughts are on why Table Rock is scheduling 30 MW 24 hours a day. There old usual pattern was heavy in the morning off during the day and heavy again in the early evening and off on the weekends. I work for a utility that is a part of the Southwest Power pool and it seems to me that they have started using Table Rock to meet hourly swings in power demand. I would just like to do some wading.
Members JWC Posted May 19, 2016 Members Posted May 19, 2016 What is also interesting is that there has been no generation for a couple of hours. However, the level has gone up from 701 to 703. What causes this? There was no change in release.
MOPanfisher Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Some of it will depend on where they are measuring the lake elevation. I assume they are measuring it at Powersite dam, which is what 20 something miles downstream from Table Rock? Takes time for the water to travel the distance. SWPA determines generation, during high lake levels they may generate at full capacity rather than see the water simply dumped, and be able to back off on say a coal plant. Also if there is a break down or some other electrical producer goes off-line unexpectedly the Hydro dams can come on line quickly and cover the loss.

According to the chart, they cut the flow of "30" from 10 to 12 noon, then bought it back to "30" at one. At first I thought maybe the rise in lake level was due to the big fish they stocked at the hwy bridge.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 19, 2016 Root Admin Posted May 19, 2016 Funny you ask..... it's off today. Have no idea why but it's definitely a big change compared to years past.

I assume they are measuring it at Powersite dam, I believe the chart they were referring to was the Table Rock tailwater. That would be measurements taked just below Table Rock dam, not at Powersite. Real men go propless!
Russell Doughty Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I called the dam yesterday and he said they had divers down working on the dam. Hence the shut off.

Hence the shut off. Humm... that's not correct. They didn't dive yesterday. And they've never shut it down when they dive. The person you talked to was misinformed... imagine that!
