Sounds like jpb2187 had the same plan family trip get out of this heat and fish alittle. Drove up from Spfd Mo. Got out for 2 days of smallmouth fishing with Chris Johnson guiding us in a decked out 21ft triton. Went out of Egg Harbor and caught fish right off on the point just at the edge of the harbor. My wife was with me and she has never really fished but Chris had her casting a tube jig fairly quickly. She fisfed for only an hour or so but managed to catch a few, one 18". I was throwing a ned rig most of the time. Not huge numbers maybe 15 for the day but all quality 16" up to 20" ,most of then 17-18. Next day it was just Chris and I, (jpb you could havecome with us). shortly after getting on the water it started to rain. Not a drizzle but never downpouring just steady rain witha good breeze. Wasn't cold thoughso we managed. Glad i took my bibs inaddition to a rain coat. Unfortuanately the bite wasn't happening. Worked several spots 8-15fow all no more than 100 yds off shore. Caugth a couple smll fish on ned. Switched over to swimbaits and did better. The rain and wind died so we headed out to a nearby island. Fished and big 12ft deep flat with no luck. Just as we headed back the wind came up and generated 3--4 ft waves so we had a long 5 mile trip back to Egg Harbor. His boat handled them fine it was just slow.

I know there are better times to go up to door county for fishing but to get out of this heat when the fishing can be slow and go out and catch smallmouth this size was quite a treat. Next time I'll tow my boat up there. It is only a 17 1/2 ft aluminium but wiht an eye on the weather I think it can be safely done.

Yes Curt you had me standing on my head to see a couple of those :) . Yes the cigarette boat. My question is why didn't you ask for a ride? Bet it would pin your ears back. Is Julie going to start fishing now? Soon she will be in the cold duck hunting too, ya think?
