Targa98 Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Gentlemen and Ladies, I am contemplating getting down to the rock to fish one evening, possibly friday or saturday night. Does any body have any advice to share on which are may be better right now. I live about an equal distance from either one. I just dont fish enough to know which has a better bite, if any, right now. And possibly what to try. id say ill put in around 7 or 8 and fish til midnight or so, just to get away from the crazies and try to relax a bit. Thank you for any help and these sights are awesome. You guys post some very good stuff. I normally spend most my spring fishing crappie and Walleye on Stockton and dont get to TRL very often.
cheesemaster Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I haven't been to shell knob but from listening to the reports and reading the posts - up the white river is a little bit better right now. I hear the fish are a little shallower in the James but not as many numbers. It has been a few weeks since I have been up the James.
magicwormman Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I would go to Shell Knob. The James is pretty stingy right now for quality fish.
Codywskeeter1521 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 I've spent most of my summer up the james. They have really been tight lipped last couple days. But could turn around anyday. For shell knob couldn't tell you. Hopefully someone will come along.
ryan Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Fished up the James on Thursday, put in at cape fair and it was pretty tough. Fish scattered and shallow. Thermocline around 20-25 feet. Caught all my fish shallow in less than 10ft of water. Crankbait and a shakey head. Fish were keying on bluegill, had 7 keepers all blacks. Biggest maybe around 3lbs, kept going back out deep and looking but never found a bite on a FB jig or big worm. I don't think they were running water which I'm going to guess was the reason they never set up deeper on the points and breaks. Lots of shad and fish would chase here and there but nothing steady. No topwater fish for me. Best of luck. Codywskeeter1521 1
