nhornback Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 With all the rain and flooding that just got dumped on areas north of here, I was curious to know if that water will eventually effect the James below the springfield dam to galena? Planning to float this weekend but thought all that water might bring it up by the end of the week and make it tough to float/fish. Any insight greatly appreciated!
Flysmallie Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 It usually takes around 24 hours for the water to get from Springfield to Galena. Looking at the gauges at Springfield, Boaz, and Galena right now it looks like this weekend will be perfect unless we get a bunch of rain between now and then.
nhornback Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 I thought maybe all the rain that just dumped on areas well north of here this morning might bring the river up by weeks end? Hoping I'm wrong but never tracked river levels until the last several weeks so idk how rain that far north effects the James below Springfield dam, or if it even effects it at all... ?
Flysmallie Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Pretty much anything north of town stays north of town. That water typically goes in the the Little Sac. Water in the James comes from the James to the east of Springfield up around Marshfield, but can also come from the west side of town in Wilson's Creek. Unless we got pounded to the NE then nothing is coming. Last week or maybe the week before I drove out to Springfield lake to see what the water looked like. Looked great. We had received some rain but not that much. Went back after work to fish and it was a big muddy mess. While we had little in Springfield the had received 4 inches in the Marshfield area and it arrived about the time I got there to fish. Keep an eye on these 3 gauges and you can pretty much tell how it's going to be. James River - Springfield James River - Boaz James River - Galena bs1827 1
MOPanfisher Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 If I remember right over around Strafford is a dividing point where all 3 river systems (James, Sac, and Pomme) are pretty close together. Here is the drainage for Pomme, just for reference.
MOPanfisher Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Actually here is a better location. you can select the water shed drainage you want to see. http://www.mowin.org/Watersheds/
