Members okie Posted August 2, 2016 Members Posted August 2, 2016 first off, thanks to you all who post current tips and reports! Its a great help to have an idea of what to expect for a once in a while weekender like myself. I left Pla-Port on Sat morning at 05:30 with the idea of going up the Kings to look for some shallow fish with a friend. Ran into a fog bank at the mouth of the Kings, and decided to change plans, at least until the fog lifted. Sat down at the island, and caught a couple of 16 inchers on a shakey head, and after a hundred yards or so, saw my locator indicate lots of fish just off the bottom at 30ft. My rod loaded up on the first drop with a coleslaw Dixie jet spoon. first one was 18 inches, and caught one or had one hooked up on every drop for 15 minutes or so. Trolling motor then rolled craps(happens at the worst time huh?), so headed back to the dock. Able to get the battery replaced in town(less than 3 months old, btw), and then got in a little nap and watched some golf. Saturday afternoon wife and I headed back up the Kings, and hit the trashy channel swing bank I had planned on hitting in the am. caught a pair of 19.5 inchers on the shakey head, but couldn't catch anything else. caught one more 16 incher on a similar bank on the way back down to my morning school of fish by the island. got there around 06:30 thinking that the boat traffic might have died down, wrong, but the fish were still there. caught 16 on the spoon, all but one were better than 15 inches, and several more on a plum drop shot worm, after the initial bite died down. Sun am these fish were gone, but had a similar bite up the Kings(except for size, these were mostly small spots) on the long point below the ski run. Thought I would try the spy bait as these fish were near the surface. they really eat that little thing, but dealing with two sharp little trebles vs one bigger one on the spoon made me put it down. Well, that's my info, hope some of you can put it to good use. Oh, LD met your son while fueling, seems like a nice young man. You should be proud! tight lines. magicwormman, Fishin4Fun, Quillback and 3 others 6
