moguy1973 Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 This winter I am thinking of upgrading my trolling motor on my 2008 Bass Tracker 175 TXW to a 24v unit. It currently has the 46lb thrust 12v one it came with. Anyone know what all would go into that? I'm probably looking at the 65lb x3 Motorguide that BPS sells for $500. I'm pretty sure it has 8ga wire from the factory, so I'm not sure if I will need to pull 6ga or not. I'm hoping i can just get a dual tray that fits back there (not much room but I found one that fits), a couple 27 size batteries, and the trolling motor and be good to go, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has done this. Thanks. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Old plug Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I like your idea but be care full getting use to it. I have a 181/2 ft alum pro bass Targa. The boat is not a lightweight to begin with but because of a problem with the bottom the 100 ga bottom has been covered wth 90 ga additional alum. I have a 65 lb thrust 24 volt troller. On the front of it. Believe me at 65 lbs volts of thrush that can about jerk that 17 ft boat right out from under you.in a sharp turn. I would not have anything other than a 24vt system though you can do much fishing with one charge.
Seth Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 You will be fine with the 8awg wire. The only thing extra that you will need besides another battery is a cable that hooks from the positive of one battery to the negative of the other. You will love the extra run time and power that a 24v gives you.
Smalls21 Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 just install second battery and make a jumper wire to connect batteries
