Members kvo113 Posted August 18, 2016 Members Posted August 18, 2016 I'm about to buy a new shakey head set up and was just wondering what shakey head size you guys prefer for LOZ? I see a lot of companies marketing bigger (1/4+) shakey heads around here, but most of the articles I've read about shakey head fishing involves 1/8 and 3/16 jig heads. I'm between a loomis 822 syr and 823 syr by the way. thanks!
Old plug Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Heavy at least 1/2 oz and 5/8 up to 1 oz are popular. Beilieve it or not those heavy jigs are used in shallow water as well as deep. These are flipped and pitched.
fishinwrench Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I go pretty robust and heavy. 3/8 with oversize hooks and a fat worm, fished on a Med casting rig and 15# line. Spinning gear, lighter heads, and skinny worms work too, but usually you are fishing in or near brushpiles or over dock cables.
WeekendWarrior Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 I mostly use 5/16, 3/8 and 7/16 but like plug said some go heavier.
WeekendWarrior Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Must have been typing at same time wrench ?
Old plug Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 My mistake I do use a lot of a 3/8 and 5/16. Mind is fleeting at my age. I am kind of forgetting I guess becuase of all my drop shotting addiction.
Hydro 205 Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 I make my own. I use 1/4oz on my Carolina rod and 1/8 on a spinning outfit. If I feel I need to go heavier I'll throw a Texas rig or just a regular jig. I always throw a green pumpkin trick worm or a finesse worm. I use my shakey head to locate the fish. Then concentrate on them with a jig or spinner bait. But sometimes the bigger ones want the shakey head.
