The last three hunts and we are done with early teal,

Took Wednesday off. I got too hot on Tuesdays hunt I think. Back to the X on Thursday for a limit.

Then Friday morning there was a group on the X and I had to paddle in a bit further to another place. I was slightly off X number two but I finished up by eight fifteen.

I was bushed after these two hunts but knew I needed to ask the Mrs. if she wanted to go Saturday (today). Heck yes she said . I told her it will be the weekend crowd and we would need to be there early and go back a long ways to get away from everyone. One would paddle and the other would walk the levee gravel road back. No problem she said I am game and need the exercise. We got to the gate an hour and a hale before LST and there was already three rigs there. I knew it was the party that got the X the day before but not to worry I had found a better newer super X. We loaded the kayak and I paddled in and the Mrs. Walked in in her crocks as I had her hip boots with me. At the place we would meet she put on her hip boots and we had planned on pushing the kayak from one person to the other across the deep channel for a shuttle across. I askes if she thought she could get in with me to go across. She did, it was a bit scary and tippy but we managed to cross! In the dark I was not too sure as we pulled the kayak through the flooded grasses if we were even close to the new X. int e distance we could see more head lights coming in. We set up and waited. There was one head lamp heading back our way. I flashed our light his way with him not even slowing down. Keep in mind we were a mile approx back from the parking area. This guy sets up a hundred yards away next to the deep channel. Turns out it did not matter but I was a bit burned with all this great large marsh this was where he landed. So now the long wait until sunrise. Tick tick tick. All this time hundreds of birds coming in and out. Buzzing our heads. Unnerving to say the least. This was the Mrs. first time having this many birds around. LST arrived and it was game on. WE WERE ON THE BIG X. LST arrived at 7:06 and out last bird hit the water at 7:40. We  picked out shots and actually took our time too. We picked up and headed out the way we came, right by the close guy. Just before we got to him he shot his last bird. I asked him did you see out light out there? Yes I thought you were one of my friends until I heard two people shooting. By then it was too late to relocate. Again it really did not matter. He did not have a dog and I asked him how did you cross the channel? Well I did but it went way over my waders :) . He had carried in a bag of decoys, gun and a telescoping retrieving pole. Then had to walk out in full waders. The Mrs. Visited with him as I paddled out. She and I were the farthest ones in and the first ones to limit and leave. Fun morning and I leave you all with this happy face,

There were seven rigs at the parking area when we got back. Passed groups on the way out. One bunch on the original now I call it the mini X had seven mojos running.

 Had grilled teal this afternoon,

You had an awesome teal season thanks for sharing. I have one more morning tomorrow and we have to call it quits till goose opens next weekend. I usually dont entertain tye teal season much, not since I was 16. After all the fun we have had this year I think its going to become a ritual!

Another great hunting post. Congrats to you and the Mrs. I'm sure that we will hear more when the puddle duck season rolls around.

Don't forget that this is a fishing forum. The french fry may have to make a return.

             Monday through this morning,

The BilletHead went with his Cajun friend. Hit the duck park with some new BCY bowstring material types. We have big water with the low lying areas around the river flooded. Not real sure if birds are spread out or we lost a bunch but there was not much going on. Three of us took out six. Then yesterday The Mrs. and I went again with the Cajun. More exploring than anything. Did see a few birds here and there but did not even set up. Fun boat ride none the less. In the Afternoon the Mrs. and I scouted one place and the Cajun another. He called about a place he had never hunted but I had before in low water. It isn't low now he said lets give it a try in the AM.  Meeting him at the ramp we had lightning, thunder and a hard rain. We visited until it stopped then launched the boat. Puttered out there flushing birds out of the flooded mixed grasses. Picked a spot and got set up way after LST. Birds buzzed us as we were doing that set up. Hid the boat and hunkered down on either side of a button brush bush. I would say our first shot was close to seven thirty and the last just after eight.  It was good, real good. All I had today was the phone camera. So not a good photo but there are a dozen here. One green wing and the rest bluewings. Good day and good company!   Public ground,
