Sharps4590 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 I guess it's the old cop in me but some of the behavior I've seen on public waterways should be punished with hefty fines and jail time. One mans swinging room ends where another mans nose begins. My remedy is that I simply don't go to places where such behavior takes place. I hate crowds, rude people, obnoxious drunks and am prone to do things such as call law enforcement, file complaints and follow them thru.....and....well, I won't go there. Right wing conservatism infringing liberties? Centuries ago John Adams said that a constitutional republic, which this nation is, would only work for a moral people. That means self control which public drunkeness, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace fail miserably. If punishing or attempting to prevent that kind of public behavior is "right wing conservatism" then count me proudly a part of it. Vic I'd rather live my entire life, living as if there is a God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there isn't, than to live my entire life as if there is no God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there is.
brittsnbirds Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 Vic- You've got my vote and I suspect mcp633 is there too! The sad part about the "process" is there isn't enough LE out there to make their own case so they have to rely on witnesses/complainants. And that's if they can get in the area quick enough to at least make an on-view violation. The majority of people don't have the luxury to come back to 10 buck 2 during the week to go to court. I'm sure you will agree one of the biggest problems is getting people to either sign the complaint and/or be a witness to the offense. There has been a time or two when I had to drop the badge thing and let some fool know he should move on with no problem's. I mostly avoid the idiots because of the day to day (night to night) contact we have with them. The last thing I want to do is deal with a knucklehead and adjust his attitude. All it takes is one liberal nut job find out a off-duty copper tuned someones attitude. After 20 years of this job my wife understands why I don't like to hang around crowds. The majority of the idiots don't realize that "we" have the biggest gang in the world and there are a lot of us out there trying to enjoy the tranquility of mother nature with our family's. We work hard to have our peace and quite, so don't infringe on our rights! Off the soapbox, I didn't get home until 0300 last night from work!
Sharps4590 Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 britts...I haven't been in law enforcement for near 30 years...there wasn't enough of us back then either. I've been there and done exactly what you refer to and it is terribly frustrating. That is one reason why I will sign the complaint, follow through and what the heck, I've been in court before on a lot more serious things than drunk and disorderly. Also, as I live in Timbuktu, none of the counties where there are popular floating rivers is very far from me, I own the company and can arrange to be in court....but that's me and the choices I've made in my life. It would be very inconvenient for somone to take off work, spend 3-8 hours on the road and then have the little dirt bag fail to appear. It ain't easy. Anyway, I just stay off those creeks and rivers during the summer. I live down here and don't have to go during peak drunk/idiot floating season. Life is tooooooo short! Vic I'd rather live my entire life, living as if there is a God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there isn't, than to live my entire life as if there is no God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there is.
brittsnbirds Posted March 19, 2007 Posted March 19, 2007 Vic- If I have my way in the future, I would love to retire down there somewhere. My first step was to move my family to the country and get in the sticks. Not too many sticks up here that I could afford but I have tons of trees and have wonderful neighbors on a dead end road Out of curiosity what business are you in? Fly fishing equipment? Thanks for your back! We need to stick together on our quest to keep things "right". Pat
Sharps4590 Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I've been an electrician since the 70's and an electrical contractor for about 20 years. Sat for the Master Electrician test back in '81, which isn't required down here, but I keep it current. Life is a matter of choices and as with anything it has it's ups and downs. It does give me something of a choice as to where I want to live and still make a decent living. Most folks have use for electricity. Interesting how this topic suddenly got quiet, huh. Vic I'd rather live my entire life, living as if there is a God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there isn't, than to live my entire life as if there is no God and Jesus and to find out at the end that there is.
brittsnbirds Posted March 21, 2007 Posted March 21, 2007 I wish I had a craft to fall back onto. My family were Union Carpenters and farmers. I chose to go the LE way after sampling both professions as a kid. My Dad insisted I go to college and get my BS. It's paid off, but the problem in LE is I would have to start all over on the pay scale if I relocated. I've been topped out for 8 years and can't afford to go anywhere else. Can you say "Golden Handcuffs"?

jdmidwest Posted March 22, 2007 Posted March 22, 2007 Yep, it kinda got boring after everyone got off subject........ "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
