Members FliTrap4 Posted March 16, 2007 Members Posted March 16, 2007 BK.... Lets put it this way.... I wade fish only.... Fly fish only.... Tie my own flies... most of which you would be hard pressed to find such patterns in a store! I don't pitch common patterns at all! (Thats not to say, my ways are best.... only to tell you how I choose to do it!) I don't use guides, though I have a lot of respect for them and golf courses! Both keep many of the "duffer folk" off the rivers and out of my way! And I can't say enough about how great is is to "pick their minds" as for how and where to fish..... Now..... Yes, I have had 50 plus fish days.... many times.... my best being 117 trout in about 5 hours! Yep.... a lot of trout and one heck of a "match the hatch"! That was truely a life experience! I do my homework.... read all I can find.... respect each and all who are so kind to share their experience and knowledge! That, even when I never give it a nother thought or otherwise disagree with them. "Glean what you can; grow with what you realize to work!" I will say, I am not a "know it all"! Never claimed to be better then anyone else and would just as soon see someone else learn and enjoy then to ever think I was "better" then anyone else! This site has a world of experience! Its a place to grow and to share. And way too many of the folk here would stand next to most anyone else simply for the asking.... to share what they know! If you want to learn, take a seat and watch anyone on the lake! Ask Questions and keep an open mind! But most of all.... respect what we have available to us all.... here and on the water! Tight lines! FliTrap P.S. I'll be there Satuday through Tuesday.... find you a fly rod and look me up! Outlet #2... yell out "Hey FliTrap"! You may just find me in the area!
BrianK Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 hey all. whoa..... i also seriously didn't mean to offend anyone either. I was actually being serious...I really had NO idea. (the "sshhhh" part cuz i'll keep the secret : ) Bill- I did appreciate your input and honestly didn't know... I have enjoyed all your reports. my apologies. keep em coming. Wasn't trying to come across as a know it all...especially since it is obvious that i didn't know much the other day. If i could've seen em i would have casted to em... Heck, all yours and Phil's reports recently are the reason I was down there. I agree that this site is extremely valuable and i do appreciate all the expertise and experience here. wish i could've cleared that up quicker Bill before everyone chimed in. again, my apologies. Brian
MOBass Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 Bill I have seen the schools of stockers before but haven't been able to get them to go. It looks like the small jigs and longer rods are a benifit. I may have to swith things up a little as I using short rods (5 1/2'). Are you fishing the jig under a float or just straight? Can you use a fly rod on the school fish? I haven't seen many do it so that is why I ask. As a matter a fact my fly rod has never been in my boat. Keep on postin'. I'll return the favor when I get on the water at Taney or Table Rock in the next week or so.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 16, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 16, 2007 Don't worry... I'll keep a fire going underneath Babler. He'll continue giving up secrets. Even his superglue invention.
Bill Babler Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 Brian, appreciate the post. I can't tell you how hard it is to just say enough and not too much. I don't want to step on any toes, or have a person feel that I have spoken down to them. That would never be the case. If I can ever do anything to make your trip to taney more enjoyable, it would make me happier than it would you. Love to have you on the lake, and on this forum. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Bill Babler Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 MOBass, These quality fish are somewhat of a bother in the fact that they are just not giving themselves up. You can throw hardware, till your rod melts and they will sometimes chase or bump it but for the most part snicker at ya. Best results are coming on a streight line sculpin jig or the best action on either a 264 oz micro with a flo-orange head or a flo-orange head 1/50 jig head with 1 piece of sunrise powerbait attached. I am using a float on the micro and the jig head presentation. You are right on the bite and they never swallow the bait. You can catch and release all day, and harm narry a fish. I would not say the 7 ft. rods are a must, but if you don't have them, my 6 year old girls will smoke you. Phil has these rods from the Rod Shop, and if you fish taney and don't have one you are making a huge mistake. 90 percent of the spin fishing guide have them and there is a reason. As for the fly rod, it is working fabulas, if you have the ability to sight cast as you would to Bone Fish. Very long extremely precise presentation. You are working on moving midging fish. They stop for no man. I have guided and fished taney since the late 70's and really have never seen this quality of fish or ammount of action. Come get some. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
twosets Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Bill So, sight fishing equals shuffelling, I guess its time for another thread on that. Phil, kill it before it gets going. BILL I know you get a commission on the micro jigs, we already covered that. I wasn't aware that you got a cut of the rods as well. Everyone I AM JUST KIDDING. IT'S A JOKE. Keep up the reports, I know of no other source of fishing information as great as this one. It is great for those of us who are too tied up to make it down . Hope to get there before this run is over. George As I have told you Bill, I love reading the reports "This is not Nam. This is bowling. There are rules."
crappiefisherman Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Thanks BIll It was my personal opinion and you scoffed>I didnt say it in demeaning ways , I was just stating a fact.Whats the diff from casting into schools of hathery dumped fish, that by the way will hit the proverbial cigerette butt or kicking up bugs and fishing for the 10 or so fish hanging in wait by your feet.Same hatchery fish, same fun.Dont tell too many folks or they will rent there own boats and save some serious green [ [
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 17, 2007 Root Admin Posted March 17, 2007 Guiding for stockers is a far cry from shuffling. That doesn't make sense. All trout are stocked in Taney.
crappiefisherman Posted March 17, 2007 Posted March 17, 2007 Phil please realize that I think the poor fish should at least get the hatchery pellets outta there stomachs before they get slaughtered. Those fish might actually get big naturally if they had a chance to live in the taneycomo ecosystem. Are there 12 lb rainbows in taneycomo anymore? I am not trying to upset anyone , just giving my opinion.I was hoping my opinion meant something.but. [ [
