I have a remote fuel tank that I use here at the shop when setting up idle mixtures and doing carb syncing because I can never trust the fuel in a boats tank to be fresh and free of additives.  Even though I keep the vent closed on the remote tank I can kinda tell when it is more than 3 weeks old just by the way an engine reacts to my adjustments, and if I haven't burnt it up by 5 weeks I'll dump it and refill with fresh fuel.  It just makes my days go alot smoother.

You may not be able to tell much of a difference when the motor exhaust is underwater but I can for sure tell the difference when there is no back pressure on the exhaust.  trying to finely tune an engine with aged fuel is a PIA compared to how quickly it goes with good fresh fuel.   It took me several years to accept that as a fact but I'm a firm believer now.

It may look, smell, and test good in the vial but it looses something after several weeks.
