Members Whopper Stopper
Hello all. My name is Dan, and new to this site. I have a delima, and I hope some of you can help. My problem is that I love Lake Of The Ozarks, but hate the large boat traffic. I have been fishing the lake for the last few years only in the late fall, when most of the big boys are put up for the winter. I have tried to fish the lake during the summer and it was somewhat less than enjoyable due to the big boats and some of their skippers. Some are down right rude with steering too close. All I can do is drop the rod and grab the gunnels. My question to the knowledgeable on this site is: where on this lake can I fish in relative peace? An arm that most big boats don't use because of width, depth or any other reason. I fish for bass and crappie and would love to start fishing this lake all year long. Thank you in advance for your reply.
davekeim
Not sure where you live but the closer you get to the Kansas City side the the lake becomes less crowded and a lot more calm. Members Whopper Stopper
Thanks, Cardiac for the reply. I'm a little west of you in St. Charles. If it's quieter on the KC side, it would be worth it to me to spend the extra time and gas to get there. I'll check tonight to see if I have a lake map for that end. Whopper Stopper I would start in a little town called Warsaw work my way east until you start seeing those frigates. Then you will know the boundaries. fishinwrench
You can escape the worst of the boat traffic simply by staying away from the lower/mainlake area (Meaning: from the dam to the Hurricane deck and/or Niangua bridge just off the main Osage body). From the bridges,on up...(along with the Gravois arm) still leaves ALOT of lake to fish, and the traffic is "manageable" even during mid-summer weekends. In truth, the midlake area is seldom the best area to fish anyway.
jdmidwest
Maybe the National Park Service needs to get involved with it and limit the amount of people on the lake or the number of beers in the coolers. I am sure that will solve the problems on the lower lake. Maybe a 10 hp limit on the lake just for kicks...... Naw, I say, we just let the city boys have the lower lake for a few months out of the year, and leave well enough alone. Start getting "services" involved and....OHMYGOD ! jdmidwest
Well thats what happened on the Current River and Jack's Fork this summer. Check out this thread on another portion of OAF. http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...ic=5661&hl= "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Members Whopper Stopper
Thanks to all of you for the ideas. I think that I may start the season either in the Niangua Arm, or towards Truman dam from Hurrican Deck. If there's less "frigates", (I like that one), I'll enjoy fishing without nashing my teeth. I have this site in my favorites and will be checking for info before my trips and sending reports after. Look at the Table Rock Forum when you can. They have a large following and a lot of good info is exchanged. Thanks again to all of you, and I hope to talk again soon. catman70
Lake of the Ozarks, unlike another impoundment of similar size in MO, is a privately held lake. Current and Jack's Fork are federally owned. this is why landowners can have private docks. I don't think there should be restrictions to promote fishing - only when safety becomes an issue, and some may argue that it is already. Everyone must have an outlet for their recreationla desires. there are many other fishing opportunities in the immediate vicinity, not to mention state-wide. I'd like to see the ocean vessels leave as much as the next guy, but I'm more against government regulations and empowerment.
