Members SmallMouth Fanatic Posted February 10, 2017 Members Posted February 10, 2017 Hey fellows. I'm heading out to Beaver for the first time on Saturday. It should be pretty nice, mid 70's, but pretty windy. Anyone have any experience bass fishing that part of the lake? Any suggestions?
Dan the fisherman Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I've caught fish up there many times. Bass r usually pretty good up there I don't fish it much but it's always been good for a bite when I'm up there.
Members SmallMouth Fanatic Posted February 10, 2017 Author Members Posted February 10, 2017 Thanks man! I may end up near the War Eagle area. Looks like the lake is pretty low and that part of the lake is typically pretty shallow. Do you know anywhere to get accurate water temps for Beaver?
Quillback Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 I don't know anywhere you could get them (temps) online. You could call Hook, Line and Sinker in Rodgers they might know. I'm going to take a guess and say probably 47-50 after today. Looks to be pretty breezy tomorrow, if I were going I would throw cranks like Wiggle Warts, or Rock Crawlers, maybe a spinner bait, maybe a jerk bait. I'd probably try a jig also. If it wasn't so windy, I would probably try a Ned rig, but I don't like fishing that light bait in wind when the water is cold. grizwilson 1
Members SmallMouth Fanatic Posted February 10, 2017 Author Members Posted February 10, 2017 Thanks Quill! I already have a jerk and crank tied on. Jig is my go too in all conditions. Lol! May try to do a little crappie fishing while I'm out there too. Any suggestions for finding some slabs? Carl W 1
Quillback Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Crappie are not in my skill set. Carl W 1
Guest Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Water was 46-52 this past week. Blue springs & war eagle will have 200 boats at the least. You can't escape the boat traffic when the lake is this low. I witnessed the typical johnboat bank runners. They were driving wide open down the bank in 2-3ft of water. I saw tons of standing timber lurking inches below the surface. It's extremely dangerous that far up river, even for those of us who know the rivers. The crappie are biting but the competition is fierce. Weekdays are even pressured. It's supposed to blow 30mph today. So I'm going to hunker down in east west coves like Kelly creek, blue springs, etc. The wind is supposed to lay down around 4pm, that's when I'm going to crappie fish the main river. If I was bass fishing, I would throw a RK crawler on the wind blown bluff ends, really focusing on the flatter section. Run as many of them as possible.
Members SmallMouth Fanatic Posted February 12, 2017 Author Members Posted February 12, 2017 Thanks Trophy! You were right! Boats everywhere! I moved around real slow today due to the water levels. It was awesome being back out on a lake, even with the traffic and the wind. I caught a couple shorts. One on a craw pattern wiggle wart and another on a red eye shad. Wind made it tough for sure. All the boats were looking for cover, so everyone was right on top of one another. Still glad I went out though. Looking forward to getting back out there again soon!
