Seth Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I just got a pair of president 6920 reels in, spooled one up with fresh 2# Pline, loosened the drag to get it set and noticed the the drag knob will slip and spin in the direction that tightens the drag. Thinking maybe it was just a fluke, I spooled up the other one and the same thing is happening! I've used 6925 and 6930 models for years and the drags are silky smooth. Anybody else ever have this issue with the 6920 model? The only reason I went with these models was because they will be dedicated as trout reels and only be spooled up with 2# test. I took some video on my phone to show what it is doing. I'll try to post them up later. Guess I'll be calling Pflueger to see what is up.
Deadstream Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I own several 6920 and have never had any problems, great reels. Can't believe you got 2 bad reels. Will wait for the video before I take a guess, good luck!
Seth Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 This is the 6920 that is acting up. This is a 6925 that is smooth as butter.
Seth Posted February 17, 2017 Author Posted February 17, 2017 The pair of 6920s came in a box together that looked like it came straight from the factory. amaybe it was a bad batch? If the replacements are good, I'll just chalk it up as a fluke. I understand that crap happens.
Deadstream Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Just a wild guess, excess grease on spool face? I can't make the one I have on my desk do it. Might give Glenn's Reel& Rod Repair in Des Moines a call, 515 262-2990. glennsreel@aol.com Thats where Pflueger sent me to buy spare spools. They are nice and helpful, maybe they can help. Good luck!
Seth Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 Something is definitely catching on the spool knob. If you spin the spool by hand slowly, you will feel it start to catch and then the knob will turn a few clicks in whichever direction you are turning the reel spool. It will grab and move the drag knob either direction when you turn the spool by hand. The only thing I can possibly see that could grab the knob is the hex pin that holds in the drag washers inside the spool. The hex pins in my 6925, which operate smoothly, looks the same though as far as I can tell.
Seth Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 All is good now. There are three black rubber bumpers that stick up through the spool on the knob side. Each spool had a couple that were sticking just a little bit above flush with the lip in the center of the spool. I took my fly tying scissors and trimmed them back flush and drags work great again. I figured it had to be something simple with the spool. Heck, there ain't much too them! Deadstream 1
MOPanfisher Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Boom, there it is. Isn't it a great feeling figuring something like that out. Seth 1
