Yeah, I think it was a smallmouth.  I'd just caught a big drum on the HD Craw, but the drum hit well off the bank in deep water.  This one took it within a couple feet of the bank (which was a cliff at that spot).  It felt like a heavier, stronger fish than the 18 inch smallmouth I caught a bit later.  Unfortunately, that tree was lying on the bottom about halfway between the boat and where the fish hit, and It went into the tree and broke off.

Greasy, there was a slug of slightly dirtier water moving through where we fished.  Visibility ranged from about 2.5 feet to 5 feet.  But even 5 feet is better than what it has been all winter...8 feet or more.  It was perfect color for crankbaits, and I had the hot crankbait (and before I get a raft of grief for not furnishing Hog Wally with one, it was the only one I had
