oneshot Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Ok wanting to fish from Bank, not necessarily Trout and wanting to keep fish. I'm liking Minnesota wanting to hire Outfitter and also Bear Hunt. Could go Colorado along the Arkansas River but it will be a Family visiting trip. Louisiana but will be tent Camping like the state use to live there and remember heat and Bugs. Open for ideas, lower 48 but road trip to Alaska is not out. oneshot
mmirg Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 I had a buddy that fished the Kenai River in Alaska about 13 years ago. He told stories about walking out the front door of the cabin down to the river and catching 5# salmon (I don't remember the kind) till his arms were sore. They hired a guide with a boat and fished for Kings also. He ended up with a 50# King. They brought back so much meat that they had to buy a small deep freezer. We are alot of grilled salmon with them and it was pretty awesome. I've wanted to go try the Kenai ever since.
jdmidwest Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 That guy probably paid pretty good for the cabin and access on the Kenai. Most public access during salmon runs is worse than Montauk on opening day. You wait in line to get into parking lot, wait in line for ferry on the Russian, then combat fish with others for the salmon bounty in the river. When we went up in 2000, you could bring back a cooler of fish as checked luggage free. Airlines charge for extra bags now, so fish has to be shipped back over nite for a fee. But, its a trip worth doing. Try to do it in the off season or a remote camp for the best experience. Otherwise, you fight the crowds of tourists.
