96 CHAMP Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I have 2- 31 AGM batteries for trolling motor, Motorguide 70# thrust I believe, the plug has the jumper for 24 volt. Batteries have been running down fast, they charge fine, checked with volt meter and they checked ok, charged them up and checked again after work the next day, everything ok, even took them to battery outfitters today and they checked out ok. Got home and checked plug and the plastic insulator inside was broke and the wires pulled out, I assume that is causing the excessive draw from my batteries, correct?? Thanks
fishinwrench Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Not sure what insulator you are referring to. At the TM power plug? Unless the contacts were touching (and it would either trip the breaker or be on fire if they were) then there can be no draw on the battery. But you still need to fix that for sure. An AGM battery cannot be "load tested" ......Well it can, but you're not really learning anything by doing so. If you are loosing power quicker than normal, yet the battery seems to charge back up rather quickly then the battery(s) are at the end of their life. Be sure to check behind the TM prop for fishing line and check to see that the prop can spin freely by hand. Any stiffness indicates that something is robbing you of power and causing the motor to overwork. 96 CHAMP 1
