New to forum.   We live in Western KY and fish KY and Barkley lakes primarily for crappie.  Bringing family to spend a wknd at Big Cedar on 4/13/17 and plan to bring the boat to fish.  We have never fished TRL but plan to see what it has to offer.  Was hoping for suggestions on fishing for both crappie and walleye,  Where to put in, techniques, etc.  Any info would be appreciated.  Any of you fellas coming to fish Ky or Barkley lake I can provide the same info to hopefully improve your success.

from Big Cedar i would head towards long creek under the 86 bridge. there are several good crappie spots around there.

For bass  i would go towards the Dam, lot of good fishing in that area, but someone with better knowledge of the area maybe be able to help more.

KFC, welcome to the forum. Hopefully you are coming to TRL for the experience because the lakes you fish in KY can produce great numbers and size. I've fished both for years and my son lived there for about 5 years and really got to know those lakes. TRL around Big Cedar and the dam area is pretty clear water but fish are being caught. Most walleye are up in the rivers but some are caught around the dam while fishing for bass. Brushy creek gets a lot of crappie pressure but you should still have fun. Supposed to be a lot of rain in the next week so it should add water to the pool that is 8' low now.

Good luck.

KFC....if your coming from Kentucky lake , your gonna love Table Rock if you haven't been here before. I own a cabin on a little lake outside Metropolis Il., so I;m pretty familiar with Kentucky/Barclay. Wife and I bought a lot on the lake last October. We will be building and moving down to the Rock in a couple of years.[ retiring ]. The rock 'fishes' a lot different than Kentucky lake. Bit of a learning curve. Good Luck and have fun. Weclome to the forum. This is the best place to learn.

Kentucky, Barkley, and Table Rock are all upland reservoirs, so many of your skills and much of your knowledge will carry over. I think you will like what you find. Because it is a vacation and you will only be here for a short while, I encourage you to book a day or half day with one of the good local guides. Google Bill Babler, Bill Beck, Pete Wenners, Phil Stone, and Don House. Call one. If they are booked they will put you with someone else good.

Thanks guys for the info.  I am planning to get a guide for a half day for a brief lesson on TRL.  Fished this wknd at Ky lake.  A little windy, but finally settled down and we caught 16 keepers.  Most of the fish we caught were up on the bank in abt 3-4 ft.  the rest were on structure 6-8 feet.  Looking forward to new water in April.  Its always fun to fish at home, but love to try out new territory.
