Randall Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 i know my copy of tryon's book is well worn and has paid for itself many times over. more detail on each water would be okay i suppose, but it would take the fun out of exploring the rivers. the parks are a different beast though, and a guide that holds the readers hand- so to speak- through the fishing and other elements of the trip would be preferable. Cute animals taste better.
Don Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 There are two main elements to your aspirations: content and marketing. Content : Quality of information communicated effectively to all readers that include almost ALL information pertaining to Missouri trout park fishing in an organized format. Marketability: An effective and efficiant means to distribute your literature to all individuals who might be even slightly concerned in tour topic. Both concepts solidly intact, don't leave yourself regrets by telling everybody years from now that "I've should have written a book." Good Luck.....Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
jdmidwest Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 The book about MO trout parks is here on the website missouritrout.com. http://www.missouritrout.com/book.html It says it is being expanded into a full length book, yeha. I picked it up one time while waiting to pay for lunch at Montauk. It is more of a short guide than a book. Maybe you could get together with MDC for publicity. Greg Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 That site has been saying the book is to be updated and expanded for the last 3 or 4 years. Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
TroutFearMe Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 Other then making this a fishing guide what else would everyone want to see in this book
Greg Posted April 1, 2007 Posted April 1, 2007 I think the more info you pack into it - the more likely it would be to to appeal to a broader audience (beginner to expert). I would certainly talk about: recommended tackle (line weights, etc), fly selection, the different areas/holes, different fishing methods (dry fly, streamer, nymph, etc), fishing in the different seasons, etc. If you have any particular secrets like a go-to never fail fly I would certainly write about that. For myself even though I'm a fairly experienced fly fisherman - I'm not that familiar with all the different areas/holes of Montauk. I'd be interested in that as well as any "killer" flies. Have you thought about an e-book? I don't know everything about it but an e-book could probably be produced pretty cheaply especially if you know your way around a computer. You might even be able to get Phil to let you advertise it on this site? But I'd certainly check with him first. With an ebook I think production costs would be cheap. When someone buys they could just download it from a site or maybe you could even email it as an attachment. MrDucky Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 I think it's a great ideal , then i will have somthing else to talk my wife into letting me buy LOL , I think it might be great though for Visitors from other states who are not acustomed to fishing trout parks . Also i would put a friendly reminder that there is enough room to fish in a trout park , so fishing right on someones hip in one hole is not a good ideal, and is down right RUDE!!!! Yikes!!! I Hate that warning horn
Randall Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 i still say make it a vacation guide as well... list lodging, local restaraunts, and other attractions in the area that the families of the fisherpeople could go see. also talk about manners, the springs, trails, museums, and hatcheries in the parks. i still say if you're gonna do it, do it over all the parks. Cute animals taste better.

I'm sorry MrDucky. I won't come stand by you anymore. At least I didn't fall on you!! I think it would be nice if a book like this had maps of the park. It doesn't have to be anything of great detail.
MrDucky Posted April 21, 2007 Posted April 21, 2007 Ronnie , I don't mind you , Unless the croch of your pants are missing Yikes!!! I Hate that warning horn
