Members harber01 Posted April 19, 2017 Members Posted April 19, 2017 Anyone use the ramp out at Catawissa? How deep is right there - at least 4-6'? Can I use my Bass Tracker with a prop over there? And is the river down enough now that it is safe to fish the Meramec yet? Still learning the river. I have been putting in at Pacific & Eureka but I'm afraid the current will be pretty strong with the river level. Thanks.
shrapnel Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Actually I crossed it in Valley Park tonight and was surprised how good it looked, has it's green color back, not brown and current wasn't terrible. The bar just upstream from the 141 bridge is showing again.
moguy1973 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Catawissa boat ramp doesn't actually get you into the river unless the river is really up. It just gets you into the sloughs out there. You are awful brave running a prop up that far. Easy way to knock a lower unit off especially with the stained water and not knowing the river. bkbying89 1 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
MOFishwater Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 river has def cleared up but (for me) still a bit high. we took a peek at it yesterday afternoon (Route 66 ramp), had plans of taking the canoe out for an hour but decided against it. It'll be sky high again after this weekend it appears, maybe we'll get out in June;)

Expand My Brother-in-law will attest to the hazards of running a prop on that river and not knowing it. He had to throw the motor away it was so messed up. Popped a bunch of rivets in the back of the boat as well. Good thing it was an old boat and motor.

I have been on a hot streak of recent.....I have waded or paddled 5 times in 10 days. The bass on the small streams I have been wading are for the most part locked on beds. I fished a creek in Crawford county last Friday that I have never fished before and it has a fish population that honestly was unbelievable. I may end up fishing the Big B B this weekend on the upper end of the lake.....I have to give my buddy a yes or no answer here real fast....may have to go pay cash at Fitz's or Osage Beach Bait & Tackle??? Expand I'm gonna register once I get there as well. I'm rigged and ready to roll, but honestly if the forecast doesn't improve from the 3" of rain and all day on Sat I might just sit on the dock and crappie fish with a beverage! We will be in the Glaize. Smalliebigs 1

Expand yeah I am starting to think it just is not worth sitting in rain ALL day Saturday and then some nice high pressure moving in on Sunday.......that is completely typical of this event though......bad weather
